There are nearly 40 golf courses within 40 miles of our Banff Accommodation (one hour drive) ranging from championship links courses to gentler, rolling parkland courses. Views from these golf courses range from the jagged coastline of the Moray Firth to the rolling farmlands and hills of Aberdeenshire.
We are very fortunate here at our Banff Accommodation to have two Royal golf courses right on the doorstep.
DUFF HOUSE ROYAL – Is within walking distance of Carmelite House. It is a flat, beautifully manicured parkland course with little rough.The large "McKenzie" two tiered greens, well positioned bunkers and trees make a testing but fair golfing challenge. The River Deveron provides a hazard to those playing the 7th, 16th and 17th holes.

ROYAL TARLAIR – is just a 5 min drive over in Macduff. It is a cliff to parkland course with panoramic views of the coastline. Its most challenging hole is the 13th known as the "Clivet" where a watery grave waits for every ball.

Heading inland towards Aberdeen, you will find:
TURRIFF – a well established parkland course. Lush green fairways follow the banks of the River Deveron. It is generally a gentle walking course with only two hilly holes.

NEWMACHAR – HAWKSHILL- this wonderful links course has hosted the Scottish Seniors Championship. Water is a prominent feature and makes it one of the most beautiful yet challenging courses.

CRUDEN BAY – an inspirational links course, regarded by some as quirky and others as a masterpiece. It uses the original lie of the land to breathtaking effect. Elevated tees cut into the sand dunes, humped and hollowed fairways reach beautifully shaped greens nestling in attractive dells and requiring accurate approach shots. And all this is set against the wonderful backdrop of the North Sea.

ROYAL ABERDEEN- BALGOWNIE COURSE – the 6th oldest club in the world. Classic links lay out – out through the dunes and back along a plateau.The par 4 18th hole is reckoned to be one of the best finishing holes anywhere. Host of the Scottish Open in 2014.

Heading east from Banff you will find:
LONGSIDE – a small and charming parkland course located in some of Scotland's most fertile farmland. The river Ugie runs through the course. Its signature hole is the par 5, 8th, its longest and most difficult hole.

PETERHEAD OLD COURSE – this is a links course nestling in dunes above the point where the River Ugie meets the North Sea. The course layout uses the natural contours of the land and poses a challenge to all players.

INVERALLOCHY – this course boasts views of the sea at every hole. It runs along the coastline between Inverallochy and St Combs. It is short by modern day standards with 6 par 3s but nevertheless it provides a testing challenge for any level of golfer.

FRASERBURGH CORBIEHILL – this course is the seventh oldest worldwide. Founded in 1777, it is one of the country's truest links courses. The view from the 3rd tee is worth the trip alone, with spectacular views of sand, sea, links and the Buchan landscape.

ROSEHEARTY – a 9 hole course nestling on the rolling dunes in this coastal village, commanding views over the North Sea and in itself is a supreme mix of links and parkland . Although a short course, the small greens require pinpoint accuracy and you really are at the mercy of your short game!

NEWBURGH ON YTHAN – this links course is located where the mouth of the River Ythan meets the North Sea. The course is characterised by undulations and hills with elevated tees and greens providing a golfing challenge. It is noted for the quality of its greens and stunning views.

Heading west from Banff you will find:
CULLEN – a traditional seaside links course incorporating many blind shots and offers great views of the coastline. The par 3 7th is its signature hole where you can see almost every green on the course from this vantage point. Although a relatively short course, the par 3s require precision.

STRATHLENE Buckie – a superbly maintained cliff top links course extending east from Buckie to the small village of Findochty. A particular feature of this course is the small hillock which hosts the 4th, 10th and 13th greens! This is probably your best chance to see the Moray Firth dolphins passing close by.

BUCKPOOL – a raised links course on the west side of Buckie. Wind and gorse aplenty makes this a challenging and satisfying course.

SPEY BAY – an undulating links course with a long beach along one side. A variety of gorse and heather, shingle and beach form borders at some of the holes. The 8th green is perched on a hillock with nothing to stop the ball but your own skill and accuracy!

GARMOUTH AND KINGSTON – nestles on the west bank of the River Spey between the two villages of Garmouth and Kingston and its consistently small greens provide a challenge to all who play it.

MORAY OLD at Lossiemouth – this is a great links course that has hosted many tournaments including the Scottish Mens and Scottish Ladies Amateur championships.

MORAY NEW – this is also a stern test of golf. Many of the holes run alongside the Old Course and although not long, its tighter fairways and smaller greens make a tough challenge.

ELGIN – a beautiful and testing heathland course and is generally considered the finest inland course in the north of Scotland. It is relatively flat with some tree-lined holes and houses 8 par 4s all over 400 yards making this a severe test of your golfing prowess!
